Hammel and Smith (1993) linked the importance of this topic to occupational therapy.

“The ability to access and use information technologies has become a survival skill for every member of society and should therefore be considered part of meaningful occupation” p. 970
Hammel, J.M. & Smith, R. O. (1993). The development of technology competencies and training guidelines for occupational therapists. The American Journal of Occupational Therapy, 47(11), 970-997.
